In this article, we will show you how to get started with OBD Auto Doctor on Mac and what features it offers.

How to get started with OBD Auto Doctor on Mac

To use OBD Auto Doctor on Mac, you will need a few things:

  • An OBD-II compliant vehicle (most cars sold after 1996 in the US and 2001 in the EU)

  • An OBD adapter that connects to your car's OBD port (usually located under the dashboard)

  • A Mac computer running macOS 10.13 or newer

  • OBD Auto Doctor software downloaded from here

Depending on the type of OBD adapter you have, you will need to connect it to your Mac via Bluetooth, USB, or WiFi. Here are the steps for each connection method:

Bluetooth connection

If you have a Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) adapter, you don't need to pair it with your Mac outside the software. However, if you have a classic Bluetooth adapter, you might need to enter a PIN code during the first connection attempt. The most common codes are 0000 and 1234. Refer to your adapter's user guide for more details.

To connect via Bluetooth, follow these steps:

  • Locate the OBD port in your car and plug in the adapter

  • Turn on the ignition of your car

  • Launch OBD Auto Doctor on your Mac

  • Navigate to File -> Open connection and select Bluetooth as the Connection method

  • Click Search Bluetooth devices and pick your adapter from the list

  • Click Connect to start communicating with your car

USB connection

If you have a USB adapter, you might need to install separate drivers for it to work on your Mac. Refer to your adapter's user guide for more details. Your Mac should detect your adapter as a serial port.

To connect via USB, follow these steps:

  • Locate the OBD port in your car and plug in the adapter

  • Connect the other end of the adapter to your Mac's USB port

  • Turn on the ignition of your car

  • Launch OBD Auto Doctor on your Mac

  • Navigate to File -> Open connection and select Serial port as the Connection method

  • Select the correct port from the COM port dropdown

  • Click Connect to start communicating with your car

WiFi connection

If you have a WiFi adapter, you will need to connect your Mac to the WiFi hotspot provided by the adapter. This means that you won't be able to use the Internet in a usual way while connected to the adapter.

To connect via WiFi, follow these steps:

  • Locate the OBD port in your car and plug in the adapter

  • Turn on the ignition of your car

  • Use your Mac's network tools to connect to the adapter's hotspot (refer to your adapter's user guide for the network name)

  • Launch OBD Auto Doctor on your Mac

  • Navigate to File -> Open connection and select WiFi as the Connection method

  • The default IP address and Port should be fine for most adapters (change them only if you know what you are doing)

  • Click Connect to start communicating with your car
